On the large engraving disc of our engraved family necklace you have five positions: top, left, centre, right and bottom. In each one you place either an initial or a small symbol. The centre usually holds the symbol that connects you all, with the family members around it. That way, a few characters turn into a miniature family crest.

1. The connecting symbol for the centre
The centre is the heart of your emblem, quite literally. Here, most families choose the heart for love, the infinity symbol for eternity or the heart hands for togetherness.
2. The initials around it
Dad, Mum, children: each person gets their initial in one of the positions. With two it becomes a couple's emblem, with four a complete family picture. Matching first letters are no problem: initials can be repeated.
3. The four-legged friends
Dogs, cats and horses are part of the family too, which is why there is the paw as well as dedicated animal symbols, which you place in a position just like an initial. For a newborn, a fitting choice is the little footprints.

What rarely works with a family engraving
- Too many characters at once. Five positions means five positions. For larger families, it's better to put initials on the large disc and spread the names across the small ones.
- Full names instead of initials. On the large disc, each position is meant for exactly one character.
- A symbol and an initial in the same position. It's one or the other, not both.
- Forgetting the pet. In our experience, the most common reason for a follow-up order.
What goes on the card that comes with it

Plan your spaceYou write the card in the cart, using three fields: Greeting, Message and Signature. Altogether, around 150 characters fit on it. So that leaves about 100 characters for the message itself.

How many characters fit on the large disc?

Can I add another disc later?
Yes, you can also do that after you've bought it. When a child or grandchild comes along, the necklace can be extended with another engraved disc. Just send us a short email.

Can the pet go on the disc too?
Yes. There's a paw as well as separate symbols for dogs, cats and horses. You place them in one of the five positions, just like an initial.

How long does it take to make?
We need 3 working days for the engraving, plus delivery time. Your piece is engraved and made in-house in Hamburg.
