Frequently asked questions about birthstones
Which birthstone belongs to which month?
We pair months and stones as follows: January garnet, February amethyst, March aquamarine, April diamond, May emerald, June light amethyst, July ruby, August peridot, September sapphire, October rose quartz, November citrine, December blue topaz. Simply choose the birth month and the matching colour is already assigned.
Are these real gemstones?
No. Our birthstones are cubic zirconia in the colour of each month's stone. Cubic zirconia sparkles very clearly, is considerably more robust than many natural stones and makes the jewellery affordable. Where we use genuine natural stones, this is stated explicitly on the product page.
Why is your June stone also an amethyst?
The June stone is a lighter, more delicate shade of violet than the February stone. Both belong to the same colour family but differ noticeably in intensity. If you order one stone each for February and June, you can easily see the difference side by side.
Why is your October stone rose quartz and not opal?
In the widely used international birthstone chart, October is usually opal or tourmaline. For October, we work with a rose quartz shade because it can be reproduced more cleanly and consistently in cubic zirconia than an opal shimmer. We'd rather be upfront about this so you know what you're getting.
Can I combine several birthstones?
Depending on the piece, you can combine several birthstones – for example, one stone per child. As an extra, there's the add-on birthstone charm with a stainless steel setting (GS002) in silver, gold and rose gold colours, as well as the charm with a rose gold-plated 925 sterling silver setting (GS001). You'll find current prices and finishes on the respective product page. If you're unsure which charm fits your piece, please ask us before ordering.
How is the additional birthstone attached?
For GS001 and GS002, choose under Attachment on the product page: Attach to my ordered piece or Pack separately. If you're ordering several pieces of jewellery, use the field Which piece? to tell us where to attach the add-on charm. With Pack separately, you'll receive it on its own and attach it yourself. The necklaces and bracelets shown in the pictures are not included with the add-on charm.
Can I add a birthstone later on?
That depends on your piece and the attachment. If you'd like to order an add-on charm for a piece you already have, please check first whether it can be attached to it. If you have any questions, we're happy to help before you order. If you're ordering GS001 or GS002 separately later on, choose Pack separately on the product page.
Can I combine a birthstone with an engraving?
Yes – on most designs, that's exactly the point: the stone stands for the month, the engraving for the name or date. Depending on the design, you can choose engraving on one side or both sides – and on many pieces, no engraving at all.
What occasions is birthstone jewellery suitable for?
Most often for a birth, a christening or a birthday, and as a gift for mothers and grandmothers with one stone per child or grandchild. Because the stone represents the month of one particular person, it also works as a quiet keepsake.
Can I have a piece of jewellery engraved at a later date?
Yes, that's possible – for example, an engraving on the back. To do this, you send the piece back to us. Please drop us a quick email beforehand so that we can agree on the process with you and tell you where to send it.
